Pride of Britan Awards 2011

Last night ITV hosted the Pride of Britain Awards, and some of the fashion from the UK elite was outstanding!  I like the Pride of Britain Awards, I think it's a really good cause and I can't think of a more worthwhile awards ceremony - for once it's not about the celebrities and how great they are, but it's about the 'normal' people and the outstanding things they have done throughout the year that haven't gone unnoticed.  Before I get into the fashion I just want to say congratulations to all the winners and nominees for any of last nights awards - they all make me proud to be British!

Anyway, back to the fashion!  All pictures are nabbed from the Daily Mail website (unfortunately).

The Good:

First up and in my view, the BEST outfit of the night goes to Kimberely Walsh.  We all know Kimberely is probably the curviest member of Girls Aloud, which is by no means a bad thing - especially when you can work a dress like this!   It looks BEAUTIFUL and flatters her figure perfectly - she looks absolutely stunning in her long black gown, total dress envy!

Cheryl Cole flew the flag for her old friend Victoria Beckham in this beautiful pink dress.  It makes Cheryl look stick thin (maybe a bit too thin?) but I LOVED the colour and the zip detailing at the back - absolutely stunning, who said you have to be old to wear Victoria Beckham eh Cheryl?

Continuing to show that girls bands rule the world, next up are the 2 best members of The Saturdays, Rochelle and Una.  Rochelle wore a lovely navy blue fitted dress with matching shoes, and Una slipped her tiny baby bump into a nice black strapless dress with matching shoes.  Neither outfit was particularly groundbreaking but they still looked lovely - good work girls!

Long black dresses seemed to be a popular choice last night, and Sam Faiers and Jessica Wright from TOWIE are included in that bracket - I bet they got these beauties straight from Minnie's!!!  I LOVE Sam's look lately, although she started off all boobs and legs she seems to have covered up a bit lately.  This beautiful dress teamed with the classy brown hair after ditching the luminous highlights means she actually manages to look classy.  Jess looked nice too, but there was something about her dress that looked a bit cheap?  I don't think I like the fit of it at the top as it makes her boobs look huge, and considering she's had massive implants put in, this wasn't something she technically needed....

Going West: The Only Way Is Essex stars Sam Faiers and Jessica Wright both opted for slinky black gowns, while their former co-star Amy Childs wore an Ultimo Couture dress

Next up, Emma Bunton took to the red carpet pulling off the yummy mummy look perfectly - the dress was understated but also nice and not plain and drab.  This dress looks like it could easily be Topshop or Very, not entirely sure which but I think it's safe to say it's not designer.  Right amount of boob and leg exposed, and didn't make her look like mutton but also wasn't old and frumy.  Paired with the sexy hair and lovely make up, she was one of the most beautiful women on the red carpet, and i'm not even really an Emma Bunton fan!

The Bad:

Michelle Mone manages to wear a dress that makes her look like Romford Market Barbie.  I understand that this dress is probably expensive (but that by NO means makes it a good dress) and I know her make up and hair is done beautifully, but the whole look is far too 'done'.  Hair blow dried to within an inch of it's life, the dress just adds to the sheer amount of EFFORT she has put in, and it's one step away from child pagent freakiness - she belongs in Newz Bar in Liverpool in this frock, not at the Pride of Britain Awards..

TPT doesn't succeed with her POBA look, and for once it's nothing to do with her mashed potato nose.  The dress itself is quite nice, but matched with the harsh hairstyle and the black tights it just manages to make her look like she's wearing a really OTT school uniform.  It was HOT yesterday and I have no idea why her stylist would have put her in tights anyway?

Any dress as long as its black: Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, EastEnder Shona McGarty and Dragon's Den star Hilary Devey all wore very different black dresses

Tulisa Contostavlos' dress is something that I debated over.  She looks nice, she has a nice subtle tan, lovely hair and fresh make up.  The dress is OK, but I think considering her agent and PR are clearly working overtime to make her the nations new darling, the dress could have been something spectacular - I remember I owned a dress like this about 5 years ago which I bought from Primark and i'm not sure if that's what's putting me off.  It's nice, but that's it...

Tess Daly looked nice but her dress was a bit too plain for me.  AGAIN, as with all of the attendees, I loved the hair and the make up but it was the actual outfit that didn't exactly float my boat.  The dress looks like it was French Connection or something, and the thing that sticks out the most for me is her knees - Look at them!  They look like yorkshire puddings???  If I was her I would have gone for classic Victoria Beckham - knee length to cover up the puds, fitted to show off that killed body, and a nice flattering colour.  It's a shame, it's ok but it could have been SO good Tess...

The award for the worst outfit of the night goes to Mel C.  The dress, shoes and the hair just isn't working for me.  The hair is FAR too limp, it makes it look like she doesn't have hair but a pair of brown BORING curtains framing her face.  The dress is baggy, doesn't give her a nice shape at all and the colour does nothing to her skin tone - if anything it makes her skin look like it's got a blue tinge to it.  The shoes are average, nothing special, same as the bag, and last but not least - her tattoo on her ankle is not very nice and should have been covered up.  Apart from that, thumbs up Sporty Spice!
